ロシアがウクライナを侵攻して一年以上が経過したが、未だ終息の兆しは見えない。

人間はいつの世でも自らの正義を訴え、絶えず争いを繰り返してきた。ミサイルや銃による攻撃は、ありとあらゆるものを破壊し、一般市民を巻き込み、見慣れた光景を無惨な姿に変えてしまう。戦争や紛争のニュースを見るといつも、破壊されたコンクリートの建物、瓦礫の山が映し出され、そこには生々しい「弾痕」Bullt holes があり、戦争の暴力性を投げかけていた。

現代の戦場で最も効果的な兵器はコンクリート。そんな言葉を目にした。アメリカの軍事計画家の言葉である。頑強なコンクリートは「障壁」を作り、敵勢力からの攻撃を防いだり、また、占拠された街をコンクリートで取り囲み、補給を行えなくすることで弱体化させ、制圧するということが可能だそうだ。

頑強であるが故に、弾痕をあらわにし、人間の残虐性を浮き彫りにするコンクリートは、我々愚かな人間達に同じ過ちを繰り返さないよう訴えかけてくるようである。

More than a year has passed since Russia invaded Ukraine, but there are still no signs of an end to the conflict.

Human beings have always appealed to their own righteousness and have been in constant conflict. Missile and gun attacks destroy everything they can, engulfing civilians and turning a familiar scene into a horrific one. News coverage of wars and conflicts always shows destroyed concrete buildings, piles of rubble, and there are graphic "bullet holes" Bullt holes, which throw the violence of war into perspective.

Concrete is the most effective weapon on the battlefield today. I saw such words. It is the word of an American military planner. Concrete can create "barriers" to prevent attacks by enemy forces, or it can surround an occupied city with concrete, making it impossible to resupply, thereby weakening it and allowing it to be overrun.

Concrete, which is so strong that it reveals bullet holes and highlights human cruelty, seems to appeal to us foolish people not to repeat the same mistakes.
